I’ve started to feel that you can only get so far teaching PKM and note-taking through written guides.
At some point, I was always going to have to bite the bullet and start recording YouTube videos, to reach a wider audience and to let everyone watch me use my Obsidian vault in front of their eyes.
So here we are. My first YouTube video, and it’s about one of my favourite and most resonant ideas — Minimal Note-Taking.
Now since the start of writing all about PKM and Obsidian, I’ve tried out a lot of different projects. Not all of them have persisted though — I used to have an Obsidian Publish website with all my articles and newsletter issues on. That didn’t last because I wasn’t satisfied with the features available to me on that platform.
As well as this, I built my personal website on WordPress and for a while, it became a central location to find all of the work I shared on the internet. This fell apart as well though, as managing the site was more work than it was worth. It wasn’t something I wanted weighing on my mind when heading into the most important year at university.
The projects that have stuck around have been writing a newsletter Fundamentalised, sharing these articles on Medium and posting to my PKM and productivity mailing list.
Having cut out a few projects that I was working on in favour of simplicity and impact in the few things that I did choose to do, I was hesitant about adding something new into the fold.
But here we are, adding YouTube videos to the stack. I was initially hesitant, seeing as I don’t have much experience in front of the camera, but that’s no excuse. Since June I’ve been doing video issues for Fundamentalised and I’ve also added videos to the product since the start of building PARAZETTEL, so I’m good enough to not be completely useless, and that’s enough to take the leap.
I couldn’t pass up this opportunity to get myself in front of this audience visually. Video is taking over the world and although I love writing and will forever respect this medium as the way that I got started in sharing content online, for a long time I’ve wanted to diversify to a worthwhile platform. Goodness knows I watch many more hours of video than I read writing, so it seems ignorant to not make use of this fact.
So if there’s something that you particularly want to see in these new videos, reach out and let me know! Because it’s so early in the journey, if I see something that comes up a lot, I’m going to prioritise making work about that.
As always, thanks for reading, watching and travelling on this journey along with me!
